BACOLOD CITY – The Land Transportation Office in Western Visayas (LTO-6) has issued a show cause order to the registered owner of a Honda Click motorcycle after a video of a dangerous “Superman” stunt went viral in Don Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday, July 13, showed a rider lying flat on the moving motorcycle while speeding along Orange Cliff, a popular and scenic stretch of road.
The viral footage prompted swift action from LTO officials, who cited the act as a clear case of reckless driving under Section 48 of Republic Act 4136, also known as the Land Transportation and Traffic Code.
“No person shall operate a motor vehicle recklessly or without reasonable caution so as to endanger the safety of any person,” the law states.
The order, signed by LTO-6 Regional Director Gaudioso Geduspan II, warns that the rider may face administrative sanctions, including the suspension or revocation of the vehicle’s registration and the driver’s license.
The rider has five calendar days from receipt of the notice to submit a sworn written explanation justifying why sanctions should not be imposed.
Geduspan said the agency—acting under the directives of Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon and LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II—is committed to holding violators accountable.
He added that all available evidence, including video footage, will be carefully reviewed before any ruling is made.
Assistant Regional Director Jeck Conlu emphasized the risks of performing stunts on public roads, particularly in mountainous terrain.
“Stunts like ‘Superman’ on public roads endanger lives,” Conlu said, urging motorists to observe traffic laws and prioritize safety at all times.
LTO-6 also announced plans to intensify online monitoring for similar violations and to coordinate with local law enforcement to prevent reckless driving in Western Visayas.
In April, a similar stunt drew attention from the Police Highway Patrol Group in Tanjay City, Negros Oriental. The rider later surfaced and issued a public apology.
