The Land Transportation Office in Western Visayas has issued a show cause order against a Jaro-based lending company after one of its registered vehicles was involved in a hit-and-run incident in Iloilo City.
A viral dashcam video showed a Toyota Wigo registered under the firm ramming the rear of a Kawasaki motorcycle before speeding off without stopping.
The incident occurred around 7 p.m. on April 9 at an intersection in Barangay Tabucan, Mandurriao.
After hitting the female rider, the hatchback driver sped off and offered no assistance to the victim.
The footage quickly went viral online, catching the attention of LTO-6 Regional Director Atty. Gaudioso P. Geduspan II, who immediately ordered the agency’s Intelligence and Investigation Unit to launch a probe.
In the order, Geduspan cited reckless imprudence and negligence, stressing that such actions violate traffic laws and disregard public safety.
Under Section 48 of Republic Act 4136, motorists are prohibited from operating vehicles in a manner that endangers others. The video appears to show a clear violation, authorities said.
Section 55 of the same law requires drivers involved in accidents to stop and render aid, making any attempt to flee the scene a punishable offense unless specific exceptions apply.
Investigators noted that none of those exceptions appear evident in this case.
As the registered owner, the lending firm has five working days to explain and identify the driver or face possible administrative sanctions.
Geduspan assured the public that LTO-6 will pursue accountability, warning that reckless driving and hit-and-run incidents will not go unanswered.
