In preparation for the expected influx of travelers during Holy Week and the summer vacation, the Land Transportation Office Region 6 has launched a series of enhanced road safety and enforcement initiatives.
The regional rollout is part of the national campaign “DOTr-LTO Oplan Biyaheng Ayos: Semana Santa and Summer Vacation 2025,” scheduled from April 11 to 20.
The program follows the directive of LTO Assistant Secretary Vigor D. Mendoza II, who ordered all regional offices to implement road safety plans to assist millions of motorists and passengers during the holiday rush.
Leading the campaign in Region 6 are Regional Director Gaudioso P. Geduspan II and Assistant Regional Director Jeck D. Conlu, in coordination with enforcement teams under Regional Law Enforcement Section Chief Relin B. Reyes.
Director Geduspan said the measures include increased visibility along major roads, random inspections at transport terminals, and close coordination with local government units and the Philippine National Police.
Mendoza emphasized proactive enforcement efforts, which include roadside assistance and surprise inspections to ensure passenger buses are roadworthy.
He said LTO teams will also monitor the readiness and well-being of public utility drivers and conductors, with random drug testing to be conducted if needed.
The safety initiative aligns with Department of Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon’s directive to safeguard road users during the expected travel exodus starting around April 16.
Anticipating that some travelers may leave earlier, Mendoza ordered LTO personnel to be deployed by the preceding weekend.
To support the campaign, LTO Region 6 recently conducted a road safety orientation for drivers and conductors of Vallacar Transit Corp., operator of Ceres Liner buses.
The session was led by Jehan Ann U. Miranda of the Regional Director’s Office and Sheila Mae C. Alulod, head of the RLES Intelligence and Investigation Unit.
The seminar covered key topics such as compliance with traffic laws, safety protocols, and driver accountability.
Participants expressed appreciation for the LTO’s efforts to foster responsible driving during the peak travel season.
In addition to highway checkpoints, LTO Region 6 will also deploy personnel to routes leading to seaports and airports across the region.
Mendoza advised motorists to inspect their vehicles thoroughly before traveling, including checking engines, tire pressure, brakes, and other vital components.
He also urged drivers to stay calm and avoid road rage, stressing that aggressive behavior puts all road users at risk.
Through these coordinated efforts, LTO Region 6 aims to ensure a safe and orderly travel experience for everyone during the Holy Week and summer holidays.
