ROXAS CITY, Capiz — The Land Transportation Office Region 6 (LTO-6) has praised the municipality of Sigma for its implementation of a landmark speed limit ordinance.
The Capiz Provincial Government recently held a joint committee hearing with LTO-6 to discuss Municipal Ordinance No. 05-S-2024, which sets speed limits and penalties for all vehicles traveling through Sigma.
The ordinance, which took effect on June 1, 2025, aims to enhance road safety and reduce traffic-related incidents.
Sigma is the first municipality in Western Visayas to enforce 24/7 speed-enforcement cameras in three barangays: Pari-an, Dayhagon and Tawog.
LTO-6 Director Gaudioso Geduspan expressed full support for the ordinance, citing its consistency with the Land Transportation and Traffic Code and the Department of Transportation’s Road Safety Campaign.
“This proactive partnership between technology and enforcement is key to reducing accidents and saving lives,” Geduspan said.
Assistant Regional Director Jeck D. Conlu said the initiative sets a progressive benchmark in traffic management and road safety for other municipalities in the region to follow.
“This is not just a local ordinance—it’s a model of innovation and public safety that we hope will inspire similar efforts throughout the region,” Conlu said.
He added that the program supports the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to improve road safety nationwide.
It also has the full backing of LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II and Department of Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon.
“This collaboration reflects a unified approach to safer roads—national leadership supporting local innovation,” Conlu said.
The hearing was held at the Capiz Provincial Board Session Hall.
It was attended by members of the Committee on Transportation, Communications, and Public Utilities and the Committee on Local Government.
Board Member Aldwin Cruz-am, chair of the transportation committee, and Board Member Jonathan Besa, vice chair, led the discussions.
Also present were Atty. Paul Ivan Baticados, chair of the local government committee; Board Member Gilbert Ardivilla, vice chair; and committee members Neriza Joy San Felix and Blesilda Almabis.
