The Land Transportation Office Region 6 (LTO-6) has ramped up its campaign against reckless driving, recommending the revocation of drivers’ licenses for motorists involved in fatal accidents.
Under the leadership of Regional Director Atty. Gaudioso P. Geduspan II and Assistant Regional Director Jeck Conlu, LTO-6 has made road safety a top priority following a series of high-profile cases underscoring the dangers of irresponsible driving.
In San Miguel, Iloilo, a motorist was involved in a fatal collision that claimed the life of a motorcycle rider and caused significant damage to three vehicles.
Police investigations revealed the driver was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and attempted to flee the scene—clear violations of LTO regulations.
LTO-6 has recommended placing the driver’s license on alarm and revoking it for two years.
Additionally, the driver has been charged with reckless driving and will be required to complete a defensive driving course before being eligible for license reinstatement.
As part of its intensified enforcement, LTO-6 released CCTV footage from a recent incident in a high-end subdivision.
The video captured an SUV, driven by a woman, colliding with a motorcycle while reversing at high speed.
The motorcyclist, who was making a slow left turn, was thrown off balance as the SUV pinned his vehicle.
Authorities have since recommended a four-year revocation of the driver’s license, its immediate confiscation, and the placement of an alarm on her record.
In Bacolod City, another driver caused injuries due to reckless driving and failed to assist the victims—violating Republic Act (RA) 4136, also known as the Land Transportation and Traffic Code.
Additionally, a call center agent doubling as a ride-hailing driver admitted to driving over the speed limit and failing to slow down for an oncoming motorcycle at a U-turn slot, resulting in a fatal crash. LTO-6 has recommended a four-year revocation and confiscation of his license.
“These recent measures reflect our firm commitment to road safety and regulatory compliance,” said LTO-6 Regional Director Geduspan.
“By imposing stricter penalties on violators, we aim to deter reckless behavior and uphold the standards set under RA 4136.”
With these decisive actions, LTO-6 sends a clear message: public safety on the roads is paramount, and violators will face severe consequences.
