The Land Transportation Office Region 6 (LTO-6) is tightening its grip on unlicensed public transport operations, delivering significant results in its intensified anti-colorum campaign.
From October through November 4, LTO-6 law enforcement teams and deputized personnel apprehended 32 colorum vehicles across Iloilo City, Dumangas, Carles, Leganes, Banate, Antique, and Aklan as part of the Department of Transportation–LTO “Oplan Biyaheng Ligtas: Undas 2025” campaign.
The crackdown, carried out under the zero-tolerance directive of LTO-6 Regional Director Atty. Gaudioso P. Geduspan II, supports the national order from LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Markus V. Lacanilao to eliminate colorum operations and ensure road safety nationwide.
One of the latest operations intercepted two colorum vans in Carles, Iloilo, transporting tourists from Manila without the required franchise authority.
The joint operation, supervised by Director Geduspan and Assistant Regional Director Jeck D. Conlu, underscores the region’s heightened enforcement against illegal public transport.
The campaign for criminal prosecution and license revocation intensified after a harrowing October 29 incident in Antique, where a colorum driver recklessly sped away from LTO-6 and Highway Patrol Group (HPG) operatives.
Despite the desperate pleas of terrified passengers, the driver refused to stop, highlighting the life-threatening risks posed by unregulated and uninsured vehicles.
Director Geduspan issued a stern warning to violators, saying, “Colorum activities endangering the public will be relentlessly pursued. Drivers who gamble with their lives will lose permanently.”
Geduspan said LTO-6 will continue its all-out campaign to make illegal transport operations a high-risk, no-reward venture.
He added that the agency is committed to ensuring every vehicle on Western Visayas roads is safe, franchised, and accountable.
