LTO-6 director warns motorists after viral crosswalk incident

ILOILO CITY — A motorcycle rider who went viral after allegedly failing to yield to pedestrians at a crosswalk in Iloilo City appeared before the Land Transportation Office Region 6 (LTO-6) to answer a show-cause order over the incident.

The rider appeared before LTO-6 Director Gaudioso P. Geduspan II on Wednesday morning and submitted his written explanation.

The motorist admitted that he disregarded the pedestrian lane even though a pedestrian was already crossing.

The rider explained that he was in a hurry to pick up parcels for delivery.

He apologized and assured Geduspan that he would not repeat the violation.

The incident, recorded along Diversion Road in Mandurriao, Iloilo City, on July 27, showed several vehicles stopping to give pedestrians the right of way.

The motorcycle, however, continued through the crossing.

Moments later, one of the pedestrians struck the rider on the head after the motorcycle passed through the crosswalk.

The video quickly spread online, sparking mixed reactions.

Geduspan stressed that motorists must observe traffic rules and yield to pedestrians using designated crosswalks.

He also reminded motorists that a driver’s license is more than permission to drive — it comes with the responsibility to follow traffic laws and help keep other road users safe.

Geduspan directed the LTO-6 Regional Office’s Intelligence and Investigation Unit to evaluate and resolve the case based on the show-cause order and the rider’s written response.
