BACOLOD City – The number of Negrenses affected by the low pressure area (LPA) and shear line that triggered heavy rains across Negros island rose to 12,016
Reports indicated that 1,131 persons were evacuated from their homes and are now temporarily staying either in evacuation centers or with their relatives.
Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Merle Garcia said evacuations were carried out in 37 barangays of cities of Sagay, Cadiz, Talisay and Bago, as well as municipalities of Cauayan, Valladolid, Ilog,Candoni, San Enrique, and Cauayan.
The 12,016 affected individuals comprised 3,526 families.
Two incidents of rockslides were reported along the eco-tourism highway in Brgy. Rizal, San Carlos City, and a landslide in Brgy. Cabatangan, Talisay, all in Negros Occidental, where a minor was injured.
Authorities immediately conducted a road-clearing operation to remove the debris blocking the highway.
The San Carlos City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office issued an advisory cautioning motorists to be vigilant in passing the eco-tourism highway, with the occurrence of another rockslide Thursday.
Trips between Cadiz City, Negros Occidental to Bantayan island in Cebu have been also cancelled due to bad weather conditions, while operations of M/V FastCat M10 and M/V Lite Ferry in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, to Cebu, resumed on Jan. 13.
