BACOLOD CITY — Police have identified a person of interest in the killing of a 26-year-old lending collector at Hacienda Paje, Barangay Consing, E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental, last Monday.
The victim, whose name was withheld, was a resident of Barangay Mansilangan in Bacolod City.
In a radio interview, Police Captain Markelly Laganipa, deputy chief of the E.B. Magalona Municipal Police Station, said the victim was riding a motorcycle, believed to be on his way home shortly after 1 p.m., when an unidentified person approached him.
The victim was shot in the back of the head and was later declared dead at a hospital, according to police.
Laganipa stated that they are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the motive behind the killing. He added that it is too early to confirm whether robbery was the intent, as they have yet to establish if the victim was carrying money at the time.
“We will classify this as a shooting incident for now, but rest assured we will file charges against the perpetrator(s),” Laganipa said.
