LeBron James sent shockwaves through the basketball world Monday with a cryptic teaser billed as the “decision of all decisions,” sparking retirement rumors and skyrocketing ticket prices.
The brief video, shared across the NBA star’s social media accounts, showed James walking toward a chair opposite an unnamed person, with a caption reading: “The decision of all decisions. October 7th. 12pm EST. #TheSecondDecision.”
The teaser mirrored James’ infamous 2010 “Decision” TV special, where he announced his move from the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Miami Heat by declaring, “I’m going to take my talents to South Beach.”
This time, however, the drama was a public relations stunt for a new endorsement deal — not a retirement announcement.
The “Second Decision” turned out to be the launch of a partnership with Hennessy, unveiling the Hennessy V.S.O.P. Limited Edition by LeBron James.
“Where the first moment marked a pivotal career move, this second decision celebrates a creative reunion and shared cultural legacy,” Hennessy said in a press release.
Described as “a bold collector’s edition,” the cognac will be available in select global markets starting in October.
While the announcement was lighthearted, it had real economic effects as fans braced for the worst.
Online marketplace TickPick reported that the cheapest ticket for the Los Angeles Lakers’ final home game against the Utah Jazz on April 12, 2026, jumped from USD 85 to USD 445 in just a few hours.
Other platforms saw even higher spikes, with SeatGeek listing the cheapest seat at USD 821 and Ticketmaster showing prices as high as USD 955.
Some fans expressed disappointment that the hype amounted to little more than a branding reveal.
James, 40, had fueled speculation earlier by acknowledging that retirement was looming.
“I’m excited about today, I’m excited about the opportunity to be able to play the game that I love for another season,” James said at a recent Lakers media event.
“Whatever the journey lays out this year, I’m super-invested because I don’t know when the end is. It’s a lot sooner than later.”
A 21-time NBA All-Star, James is entering his 23rd season and remains one of the league’s most dominant players.
He averaged 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds and 8.2 assists last season, finishing sixth in MVP voting.
James holds career averages of 27.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 7.4 assists per game.
He is the NBA’s all-time leading scorer with 42,184 points and has logged the most minutes in league history at 59,041.
With 1,562 games played, James is just 49 short of tying Robert Parish’s all-time record of 1,611 games.
For now, Lakers fans can rest easy — and maybe raise a glass — knowing the King’s throne remains occupied.
