Killed was Atty. Anthony Trinidad, 53, of San Carlos City, Negros Occidental. His wife, Novie Marie, 53, was wounded.
Initial police investigation indicated that Trinidad was driving a sports utility vehicle on their way home when they were attacked by two assailants around 2:30 p.m.
The couple, according to the police investigator in a radio interview, reportedly came from a court hearing in La Libertad town.
Recovered from the scene were seven fired cartridges of .45 caliber, and two deformed slugs of the same firearm.
Both victims sustained injuries and were rushed to a hospital, but the lawyer was declared dead.
