The ARQ Builders Lapu-Lapu showed their true form and handed Dumaguete a crushing defeat, 92-76, to clinch the last semifinals spot in the 2021 Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup Visayas leg.
Surrounded by allegations and criticisms following their controversial game against Siquijor, the ARQ Builders meant business and ignored critics to cruise through the Visayas leg semifinals.
Reed Juntilla spearheaded the Lapu-Lapu assault after erupting for 33 points shooting 16-out-of-26 from the field.
One of the most prolific scorers in the history of University of the Visayas (UV) finally broke out of his shell and performed what was expected of him from his coaching staff.
“Reed Juntilla is Reed Juntilla. He’s finally back! That’s the Reed Juntilla we have been missing for the past games,” said ARQ assistant coach Jerry Abuyabor.
Dumaguete showed signs of life in the final period after cutting the 15-point Lapu-Lapu lead to just six, 71-77, after Ronald Roy’s 11 straight points.
However, the ARQ Builders sank timely baskets to stop Dumaguete’s run to close the game on a high note.
“Our guards did a good job running on the transition. We give a lot of credit to Jerick, John Abad, and Rendell Senining. They were there to lead the boys to victory,” added Abuyabor.
Lapu-Lapu’s victory will setup a showdown with the powerhouse KCS Computer Specialist-Mandaue who will hold a twice-to-beat advantage in their semifinals clash.
