Students in Northern Negros are stepping confidently into a cash-lite future with the rollout of Land Bank of the Philippines’ (LANDBANK) Cash-Lite Campus Program at the State University of Northern Negros (SUNN) on 19 February 2026.
The initiative serves more than 2,000 students and campus partners by combining digital banking convenience with practical financial education.
Students can now seamlessly pay for tuition, food, and other campus transactions through secure account access and cash-lite payment solutions, reducing reliance on physical cash.

The program launch was led by LANDBANK President and CEO Lynette V. Ortiz and SUNN President Dr. Renante A. Egcas, underscoring their shared commitment to equipping students with essential financial skills in an increasingly digital economy.
“Today’s students belong to one of the most technologically fluent generations in history — highly connected, adaptable, and comfortable in the digital space. Introducing them early to the formal banking system through secure digital channels is essential to advancing inclusive growth and nurturing a generation that actively participates in the economy,” said LANDBANK President and CEO Ortiz.
Beyond payment convenience, the Cash-Lite Campus Program promotes responsible financial habits by introducing practical tools for budgeting, saving, and secure digital spending.
By embedding these solutions within the campus environment, LANDBANK helps foster a more efficient, transparent, and financially empowered academic community.

“Through this partnership between LANDBANK and SUNN, students will experience firsthand how financial technology integrates into everyday life, strengthening their digital literacy, financial responsibility, and adaptability—essential skills that will empower them to thrive both locally and globally,” said SUNN President Egcas.
Building essential financial skills for students
During the pre-launch activities, LANDBANK personnel assisted students in opening PISO Plus Accounts, which can be easily set up via the LANDBANK Mobile Banking App (MBA) with no initial deposit and no minimum maintaining balance, ideal for first-time account holders.
Students also received guidance on securing their accounts and utilizing Quick Response (QR) Code-enabled Person-to-Merchant (P2M) payments, reinforcing safe and convenient digital banking practices across the campus.

“As a first-time user of cash-lite technology, I find it very convenient. Especially nowadays, na grabe na ang scamming sa online banking. Through LANDBANK MBA, it helps me ensure that my money is safe and makes me feel at ease,” said Charamae C. Maguate, a SUNN student, underscoring how secure and user-friendly digital banking tools can boost students’ confidence in managing their finances.
SUNN is also a strong adopter of the Link.BizPortal, recording over 1,000 transactions worth nearly PHP 1.5 million across its network as of 2025.
With students rapidly shifting to digital payments, LANDBANK expects further growth in transactions across its digital banking channels.
To date, the cash-lite initiative has benefited nearly 10,000 students, personnel, and campus partners nationwide, as LANDBANK continues to promote smarter financial habits and hassle-free transactions.
Earlier, on 12 February 2026, LANDBANK launched the Cash-Lite Campus Program at Metro Dumaguete College (MDC), marking the Bank’s first stop in a series of campus transformations planned across the country this year.
The rollout made MDC the first higher education institution in the Visayas to adopt a fully cash-lite ecosystem, equipping more than 2,500 senior high school, undergraduate, and diploma students, as well as teaching and non-teaching personnel and campus partners, with their own bank accounts.
The program has also been launched at Central Luzon State University (CLSU) in Muñoz City, Nueva Ecija, and Palawan State University (PSU) in Puerto Princesa City.
More campus activations are planned throughout 2026, including in Metro Manila, Aurora, Benguet, Bohol, Bukidnon, Bulacan, Cebu, Davao del Sur, Iloilo, Laguna, Lanao del Norte, Leyte, Negros Occidental, Nueva Vizcaya, Palawan, Pangasinan, Tarlac, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Zamboanga del Sur.
