BACOLOD CITY – Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose V. Lacson is strengthening regional ties with Australia’s Northern Territory, focusing on international education, skills development, trade and cultural exchange.
Lacson is on official travel to the Northern Territory to attend the graduation of Negrense scholars under the Negros Occidental Scholarship Program.
He met with Robyn Cahill, Minister for Trade, Business and Asian Relations; International Education, Migration and Population; Workforce Development; Advanced Manufacturing; Children and Families; Child Protection; and Prevention of Domestic Violence.
During the meeting, Lacson and Cahill discussed expanding cooperation between Negros Occidental and the Northern Territory, particularly in education, workforce training and cultural programs.
They also explored the potential resumption of direct flights from Manila to Darwin.
Lacson reaffirmed the province’s commitment to building strategic global linkages that create opportunities for Negrenses and contribute to local human capital development.
The visit underscored the successful collaboration between Negros Occidental and the Northern Territory in education programs that are transforming the lives of Negrense youth.
Lacson’s presence at the scholars’ graduation signals the provincial government’s strong support for students abroad and its goal of producing globally competitive and socially responsible professionals.
The scholarship provides Negrense youth the opportunity to study and work in Australia, preparing them for stable careers, work visas and eventually permanent residency.
Currently, around 30 scholars from Negros Occidental are in Darwin, Australia.
Joining Lacson on his Northern Territory trip are Philippine Honorary Consul General Januario Rivas, Provincial Administrator Atty. Rayfrando Diaz II, NOSP Head Karen Dinsay and Provincial PIO and Executive Assistant to the Governor Charina Magallanes-Tan.
