BACOLOD CITY — A grudge stemming from a misunderstanding involving two children led to the death of a 56-year-old laborer in Barangay Quintin Remo, Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental, past midnight on Wednesday.
Police Maj. Ryan Villasario, chief of the Moises Padilla Municipal Police Station, said the victim, identified only as “Anton,” and his neighbor, the suspect known as “Jerry,” 50, were attending a pre-wedding celebration when the incident happened at around 12:30 a.m.
The victim was dancing when the suspect, who was reportedly intoxicated, suddenly attacked him and allegedly stabbed him in the chest with an unidentified bladed weapon.
The victim was declared dead at a hospital.
The suspect remains at large.
Villasario said the conflict escalated two weeks ago after the victim’s son allegedly punched the suspect’s son during a fistfight.
He added that the victim and the suspect also had previous misunderstandings that led to lingering grudges.
Police are awaiting the decision of the victim’s family on whether to file a case against the suspect.
