BACOLOD CITY — A 53-year-old laborer died and his co-worker was injured after they were electrocuted in Hacienda Bayabas 1, Barangay Daga, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, on Monday.
Police said the two victims were on top of a truck loading sugarcane when a mechanized cane loader accidentally hit a hanging wire connected to an electric post.
Both men suffered electric shock injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital.
The older victim, a resident of Barangay Daga, was declared dead upon arrival, according to Police Lt. Col. John Joel Batusbatusan, chief of the Cadiz City Police Station.
His 35-year-old co-worker, a resident of Barangay Tinampa-an, survived and is now recovering in the hospital.
