A laborer was arrested in an anti-illegal drug operation shortly before midnight on March 29 in Dumangas, Iloilo.
Police identified the suspect only by the alias “Okey,” 48.
He was arrested at his home in Barangay Lacturan, Dumangas.
Members of the Dumangas Municipal Police Station seized about 83 grams of suspected shabu from the suspect.
Maj. Kenn Albert Lepsia, Dumangas police chief, said the confiscated drugs had an estimated standard drug price of PHP 564,400.
Lepsia said police launched the operation after receiving information from concerned citizens about the suspect’s alleged involvement in illegal drug activities.
He said a monthlong surveillance operation later confirmed the suspect’s alleged drug trade.
Police said the suspect had been sourcing illegal drugs from Iloilo City and distributing them in Dumangas.
The suspect is now under the custody of the Dumangas Municipal Police Station.
He is set to face charges for violating Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
