La Libertad school reports alleged shooting threat

BACOLOD CITY — The La Libertad Technical-Vocational School in La Libertad, Negros Oriental, appealed for calm and urged the public to refrain from sharing, reposting or speculating about unverified information regarding an alleged shooting threat reported Friday that disrupted classes.

In a statement, the school said it received reports from several students about the alleged threat, which was sent through a messaging application and posted online.

Upon receiving the reports, the school immediately coordinated with police to address the matter.

The account and other relevant information were also forwarded to the police Cybercrime Unit for investigation and appropriate action.

The school advised the public to rely only on official and verified updates as it continues to coordinate with authorities regarding the incident.

“We understand the concerns of our learners, parents, teachers, and school personnel,” the school said, assuring the community that it was taking necessary steps to ensure safety and maintain a secure learning environment.

The school stressed that the safety and security of learners remain its top priority.

It also thanked students, parents, teachers and other members of the school community for their cooperation, understanding and continued support.

The incident came days after the E.B. Magalona Municipal Police Station in Negros Occidental received a reported threat on Sept. 22 that prompted a one-day suspension of classes.
