BACOLOD CITY — The city government of La Carlota in Negros Occidental has implemented provisional tricycle fare rates across the city starting Wednesday, April 1.
The increase is pursuant to City Ordinance No. 2026-002 in response to the prevailing oil crisis affecting the transport sector.
“It is deemed necessary to adjust the fare rates to a level that is reasonable for operators, drivers, and the riding public,” the ordinance stated.
As of March 30, fuel prices at gasoline stations in the city ranged from PHP 93 to PHP 99.80.
Most short trips within the poblacion, covering Barangays I, II and III, now cost PHP 15 for regular passengers and PHP 10 for discounted passengers.
For longer routes, the new fares include PHP 60 regular and PHP 48 discounted for Barangay Yubo.
The fare for Barangay Ara-al is PHP 55 for regular passengers and PHP 45 for discounted passengers.
The fare for Barangay San Miguel is PHP 45 for regular passengers and PHP 35 for discounted passengers.
The city government reminded the public that discounted rates apply to senior citizens, persons with disabilities and students.
All operators are required to display the approved fare matrix at the front of the windshield facing passengers for information and guidance.
Section 3 of the ordinance allows the city government to increase or decrease rates based on future changes in fuel prices through due legislative process.
Any person violating the ordinance will face penalties in accordance with applicable ordinances and existing laws.
Passengers are encouraged to check the official fare matrix before paying.
