BACOLOD City – A city mayor in Negros Occidental died of liver cancer at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Makati City Tuesday night.
Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer on Wednesday confirmed the death of La Carlota City Mayor Luis “Jacky” Jalandoni III, he was 52.
Ferrer said Jalandoni, a close political ally of the vice governor, has been undergoing medical treatment for two years already.
He added that the late mayor served La Carlota as councilor, vice mayor, and mayor.
Jalandoni was serving his second term when he died.
Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson also expressed sadness upon hearing Jalandoni’s death.
“We know each other as mayors of our respective cities and I heard good things about how he governed,” Lacson said.
The governor said the people of La Carlota City “will surely miss him.”
Lacson also appealed to the people of La Carlota City “to continue to support their officials amid the demise of their mayor.”
Jalandoni will be replaced by Vice Mayor Rex Jalandoon.
