A greener month awaits as the Komisyon ng Wikang Filipino (Commission on the Filipino Language) celebrates this year’s Francisco Balagtas Day by planting native trees.
On April 2, 2022, at 8:00 a.m., KWF will lead a tree-planting exercise in Hardin ni Balagtas (Balagtas’ Garden) located near Orion, Bataan.
The tree-planting event will be followed by the customary “Flower Offering” at the Balagtas Monument at Pandacan, Manila and Balagtas, Bulacan.
Anchored in the theme, “Muling Pagtuklas sa Karunungang-Bayan,” the momentous event is one of the highlights for the celebration of the Buwan ng Panitikan (National Literature Month).
Baltazar’s symbolic interment in Bataan province was part of the honoring of his life and contributions. Among Baltazar’s works is “Florante at Laura,” an epic that supports nationalism and is considered one of the Philippines’ literary treasures.
Proclamation 964 series of 1997 declared April 2 of every year as Francisco “Balagtas” Baltazar Day. Meanwhile, Proclamation No. 968, series of 2015 mandates the KWF, National Book Development Board (NBDB), and National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) to lead the planning, engagement, and implementation of Literature Month activities.
In celebration of National Literature Month, KWF will hold an Awards Day to recognize the winners of the Gold Record: Makata ng Taon, Tumula Táyo, Dula Táyo, and Dangal ng Panitikan.
The awarding ceremony will be streamed live on the Commission on Filipino Language and Radio Television Malacañang’s official Facebook page (RTVM).
For more information on the KWF’s activities at the festival, call the Education and Networking Division at 85473188/0928-8441349 or send an email to komisyonsawika@gmail.com.
