BACOLOD City – Two brothers were wounded after they were allegedly hacked by their relative at Barangay Maricalum, Sipalay City, Negros Occidental last Monday.
Police identified the victims as Rey Parreñas, 35; and younger brother Mark Anthony, 27.
Major James Latayon Jr., city police chief, said the brothers and suspect identified as 29-year-old Bonnen Garcia were drinking liquor in separate tables, when a misunderstanding ensued between their families.
Latayon said that Garcia was already sleeping when he was awakened by his mother, who told him that his father was allegedly being mauled by the Parreñas brothers.
Garcia, who was armed with a bolo, went to the victims’ house and challenged them to a fight.
Rey confronted Garcia, but the latter allegedly hacked his body and head.
Mark Anthony tried to pacify them, but he was also attacked by the suspect. Both siblings are confined in a hospital.
Latayon said the suspect fled but was later arrested by the police through pursuit operation.
Latayon said it was not stated clearly if indeed there was a mauling that happened before the hacking incident.
However, after the commotion, the victims’ family went to the suspect’s house and allegedly mauled the latter’s father, who sustained minor injuries, the police chief said.
Latayon said both families have yet to file charges against each other.
