From the UAAP to the Korean Basketball League (KBL), Kevin Quiambao is still a beast.
A window of adjustment from the collegiate hoops scene to the professional level will no longer be an issue for the Goyang Sono Skygunners as their Filipino import just erupted for a Korean Basketball League (KBL) career-high 36 points on February 2, 2025.
What made Quaimbao’s performance sweeter was after steering the Skygunners to a much-needed victory over the tough Wonju DB Promy club, 86-82.
The former UAAP champion and MVP highlighted his stellar outing with six converted three-pointers, his best shooting performance so far since lacing up for Goyang.
Aside from his spitfire scoring display, Quiambao proved that he is still ‘Mr. All Around Guy’ after stuffing the stat sheets with 12 rebounds, three assists, and two blocks.
From the get-go, it was clear that Goyang wanted to set up Quiambao offensively, running high picks and multiple curl decoys that freed him from downtown.
After draining the first bucket of the game with a sweet-looking perimeter jump shot, Goyang didn’t know what was coming from Quiambao’s head as he quickly waxed hot from the shooting field.
Due to Quiambao’s unconscious shooting state, Goyang was able to race to an early 20-point lead and looked invincible in the game.
However, Wonju staged a hard-fought comeback when they got close to as much as three points, 80-77, in the remaining 1:13 of the game.
Needing someone to stop the bleeding for the Skygunners, the coaching staff went back to Quiambao and put their trust in him in the most crucial stretch of the fourth.
Indeed, when the going gets tough, the tough get going. After leading Goyang to a great start, Quiambao took matters into his own hands in the clutch and sank a cold-blooded floater, giving the Skygunners a breather with a five-point advantage, 82-77.
After that sequence, Wonju failed to retake the lead, while Quiambao scored two more free throws when he was fouled in the dying seconds.
Quiambao’s massive performance helped Goyang halt their four-game KBL skid and will aim for its second consecutive win against the Samsung Thunders on February 7, 2025.
