The Kaya FC-Iloilo executed their defensive sets perfectly after keeping the powerhouse Tampines Rovers squad to a scoreless draw ending.
Known to be a high-octane and offense-oriented team, the Rovers were off to a blazing start, relentlessly probing the Kaya FC defense.
In the 14th minute, the Rovers had the chance to score first blood after their striker cruised through Kaya’s last line of defense but was eventually saved by Iloilo’s keeper.
The Rovers’ offensive pressure didn’t stop there as they continued to move forward and looked to keep Kaya defenders off-balance with their crisp ball passing.
Jayson Panhay provided a glimmer of hope for the Iloilo based squad in the 28th minute after firing a perfectly placed free-kick but hit the side of the post and was eventually saved.
The Rovers continued to charge forward the whole second-half but Kaya showed more discipline on the defensive end to frustrate the visiting squad in Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Kaya FC will again see action on March 10, 2020 as they take on PSM Makassar in Indonesia.
