Kansas City Chiefs successfully defend Super Bowl title against San Francisco

The Kansas City Chiefs won their second straight NFL Super Bowl championship title after edging the San Francisco 49ers in overtime, 25-22, last February 12, 2024, held at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

With the huge victory, Kansas just clinched its third Super Bowl championship trophy in five years since winning the LIV edition last February 2, 2020.

It wasn’t an easy task to achieve as the Super Bowl LVIII kicked off with both squads applying hard defensive pressures.

The 49ers drew first blood after 15 minutes of action when Jake Moody successfully converted on a field goal from 55 yards. Just when Kansas thought they could shift things around with their varied set plays, San Francisco pulled off the first touchdown of the game courtesy of Christian McCaffrey.

Kansas became the huge underdogs when San Francisco bagged a 10-3 lead but Patrick Mahomes, the City Chiefs’ superstar quarterback, set the tone for his squad after delivering timely dimes that ended their drought.

Mahomes proved his worth once again after orchestrating Kansas’ attack to perfection, tallying 34 successful passes for 333 yards.

With only six seconds left and Kansas needing a field goal to force overtime, 16-19, Harrison Butker delivered for the City Chiefs after clearing the conversion from 29 yards.

San Francisco replicated its hot start in the overtime period courtesy of Moody who again made a field goal from 27 yards for a three-point lead.

However, Mahomes officially closed the doors on San Francisco after throwing the game-winning pass to Mecole Hardman for the final touchdown of the Super Bowl Finals.
