BACOLOD City – A barangay councilor was gunned down by two unidentified men on a motorcycle at Purok Mabinuligon, Crossing, Barangay Lopez Jaena, Sagay City, Negros Occidental last Thursday.
The victim was identified as Kagawad Mario Negro, 36, of the said village, according to a police report.
Investigation showed that the victim and his companion were on board a tricycle when the perpetrators overtook their vehicle.
The assailants then repeatedly shot the victim.
The perpetrators fled while the victim was pronounced dead on arrival at a hospital. His companion was unscathed in the attack.
Police recovered from the scene four empty fired cartridges of .45 caliber ammunition and two deformed slugs.
Police have yet to determine the motive behind the death of Negro, who was elected as the first councilman in the village.
The victim’s family also did not know what triggered the killing. Investigation is ongoing.
