A village councilman remains at large after shooting to death his nephew morning of July 25 at Calinog, Iloilo.
Barangay Kagawad Romy Canja, 45, allegedly waylaid and shot his sister’s son, 25-year-old Jemar Libuna, at around 9:30 am Saturday in the hinterland village of Supanga.
Police Captain Genesis Roque, Calinog police chief, said Canja used a homemade 12-gauge shotgun.
Libuna suffered pellet wounds on his chest, neck, and jaw. He was taken to Calinog District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Roque said they only learned of the incident Saturday afternoon.
Investigation indicated that the suspect’s family has been at odds with the Libunas over a land dispute.
“It appeared that Canja really planned the killing,” Roque said.
Police investigators are gathering documents for the filing of murder charge against the village official.
