Kagawad shoots neighbor after fight with son

A village official is on the run after allegedly shooting his neighbor early evening of March 22 at an island village in Concepcion, Iloilo.
Police identified the suspect as Barangay Kagawad Ian Rey Apocay of Barangay Taloto-an, Concepcion.
Police reports said that Rene Chavez, 32, was drinking liquor with another friend outside their house at Sitio Guimisahan, Taloto-an village when Apocay confronted Chavez after the victim smacked the suspect’s teenage son on the head.
Chavez allegedly accused Apocay’s son of destroying a part of his pumpboat’s motor.
The confrontation worsened until the suspect pulled a handgun and shot the victim.
Major Samuel Vipinosa, Concepcion police chief, said Apocay allegedly fired his gun thrice.
The victim sustained two gunshot injuries on his right leg.
Police also recovered two caliber .9mm ammunition shells in the area.
The victim was rushed to Sara District Hospital for treatment.
Vipinosa said they conducted a pursuit operation but failed to arrest the suspect.
