BACOLOD City – A barangay official was found dead at Purok Estewetes, Barangay Bunga, Don Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental last Saturday.
The victim was identified as Kagawad Joelibert Toreno, 28, of the said village.
Police Lieutenant Everly Canto, deputy chief of Don Salvador Benedicto Municipal Police Station, said that Toreno was allegedly involved in a road accident.
Canto said that Toreno had a drinking session with some friends on Friday night.
He was last seen alive at 10 p.m. when he sent his drunken friend home, Canto said.
However, Toreno probably lost control of his driven motorcycle when he overshot and crashed into a riprap barrier while approaching the curve part of the road.
Canto said that Toreno had no helmet and probably hit his head on the pavement.
“Wala ta kabalo kung basi may ginhapitan pa siya after niya dul-ong sa friend niya,” Canto said.
She said that the victim’s family has yet to decide if they will subject Toreno to an autopsy to determine if there’s foul play.
