BACOLOD CITY – A barangay official was killed after his motorcycle collided with a Ceres bus liner on Osmeña Avenue, Barangay 6, Victorias City, Negros Occidental, on Monday night.
Police identified the victim as barangay kagawad Elvir Loraez, 64, of Barangay 12.
Police Major Joy Ellaga, deputy chief of Victorias City Police Station, said the victim failed to see the approaching bus when he allegedly suddenly crossed the road.
He was not wearing a helmet and was on his way home around 10:47 p.m. when the accident happened, according to Ellaga.
Ellaga said the bus, driven by a 41-year-old man, was on its way to Escalante City, and no passengers were harmed in the incident.
Ellaga said the victim was thrown off the bus’s windshield and was declared dead at a hospital. She noted that the bus firm and the victim’s family had already met.
The bus driver will be released from police custody if no charges are filed against him within the 18-hour reglementary period, Ellaga said.
