A village councilman skirted death after their barangay chairman shot him evening of May 10, 2022 in San Enrique, Iloilo.
Barangay Kagawad Allan Espino, 46, was physically unscathed after his alleged attacker, Barangay Captain Elvie Paez failed to hit him.
Reports said that Espino and a certain Mark Lester Paca-onsis were sitting on the lanai of one of the houses inside their family compound at Barangay Lip-ac, San Enrique when the incident happened.
The 47-year-old Paez arrived at the compound around 8:40 p.m. Tuesday.
A confrontation between Espino and Paez then erupted.
At the height of their argument, the suspect allegedly drew a caliber .9mm pistol and immediately shot the victim.
Paez was allegedly drunk during the incident.
Espino and Paca-onsis quickly sought cover inside their house while Paez fled on board his motorcycle.
Police recovered a caliber .9mm ammunition shell from the crime scene.
The reason for the confrontation between the two barangay officials remains unclear.
But reports claimed that Paez got angry at Espino over alleged vote buying in the area prior to the May 9 polls
Police have yet to confirm the report.
