Kagawad, 7 others caught for illegal cockfighting

ROXAS CITY, Capiz – A 45-year-old barangay kagawad (council member) and 7 other individuals were arrested for alleged illegal cockfighting Sunday afternoon at Aguiling Plains in Barangay Mongpong here.
Arrested were Kagawad Jolito Almondiente of Brgy. 2, Junywen Galvez, 48, of Brgy. Baybay; Jessie Barredo, 36, of Brgy. Inzo Arnaldo; Apolonio de Luna, 46, of Brgy. Malocloc Sur Ivisan, Capiz but temporarily residing in Brgy. Tanque, here; Stephen Anero, 41, of Brgy. Banica; Norberto Araque, 62, of Brgy. Mongpong; Leopoldo Bayadoy, 33, of Brgy. Mongpong; Jasper Acosta, 39, of Brgy. Mongpong.
Recovered from the suspects were 10 fighting cocks, P600 cash and other cockfighting paraphernalia.
A concerned citizen informed the police about the cockfight in their area.
Almondiente and company will be charged for violating Presidential Decree No. 449 or Cockfighting Law of 1974.
