Tropical storm “Jolina” damaged over P7 million worth agricultural produce in Western Visayas.
Based on the Progress Damage Report of the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 6 (DA-RFO 6), agricultural damages by Jolina totaled P7,456,937 as of 11 a.m. of September 9, 2021.
Heavy rains and strong winds caused by Jolina affected around 398 hectares of rice crops in the region.
Around 260 hectares of rice crops were damaged in Negros Occidental valued at P3.659 million; 98 hectares in Aklan (P3.130 million); and 39 hectares in Iloilo province (P667,447).
Meanwhile, 18 barangays and a total of 758 families composed of 1,874 individuals were affected by Typhoon Jolina, based on the situational report of the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) as of 5 p.m. of Thursday, September 9, 2021.
A total of 87 families including 314 persons have been displaced and are currently in the evacuation center.
On the other hand, 136 passengers, 92 rolling cargoes, and four vessels were stranded in Western Visayas.
As of 5 pm., Tropical Storm Jolina continues to move westward over the West Philippine Sea and tropical storm cyclone warning signal has been lifted in the province of Mindoro, according to PAG-ASA. (ERS)
