The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) already confirmed that they met with the controversial John Amores regarding a shooting incident that led to a voluntary surrender to the authorities last September 25, 2024, in Laguna.
PBA commissioner Willie Marcial announced that they met with Amores in a closed-door meeting on October 1, 2024.
Marcial stated that he explained the violations that Amores committed under the uniform players’ contract but no final sanctions had been imposed yet.
In addition, the PBA head honcho explained that listing the official violations won’t be easy as they will need a legal counsel to execute such move.
Also present during the meeting is one of the members of the PBA legal counsel Atty. Melvin Mendoza, NorthPort team governor Erick Arejola, and team manager Waiyip Chiong.
Marcial revealed that Amores already submitted his defense letter which the PBA requested. In the statement formulated by the embattled hooper, the league chief said that it contains valid reasons on why he had to go to that extent in a pick-up game.
“So nagusap kami. Sorry di ko masabi sa inyo kasi nasa korte na usapan. Pero sinabi ko lang na ayusin nya. Nagso-sorry sya. Pero sumagot na rin. Binigay namin Tuesday, Friday yata nagkasalubong kami sa office. Binigay nya sagot,” said Marcial.
Two years ago, Amores made major headlines when he went berserk in an NCAA game when he was still playing for the Jose Rizal University.
That game, Amores rushed to the bench of College Saint Benilde and threw haymakers to Mark Sangco, Jimboy Pasturan, and Taine Davis.
Old habits never die, indeed.
