Jobless man nabbed with PHP 1.39M shabu in Iloilo

ILOILO CITY — A jobless man was arrested in another anti-illegal drug operation on the afternoon of Sept. 13 in Lapuz, Iloilo City.

Alias Janjan, 44, of Barangay Calubihan, Jaro, Iloilo City, was arrested in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Mansaya, Lapuz district.

Members of the Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit 6 (RPDEU-6) seized several sachets and plastic bags containing suspected shabu, along with PHP 13,000 in buy-bust money and other non-drug items.

Capt. Glenn Soliman, RPDEU-6 deputy chief, said the seized shabu weighed around 205 grams and had a standard drug price of PHP 1,394,000.

Soliman said the suspect was arrested after more than a month of surveillance.

Police believe Janjan, considered a high-value drug personality, sourced his supply from another shabu supplier based in Iloilo City.

Soliman said Janjan was arrested following sustained intelligence efforts against individuals allegedly involved in the illegal drug trade.

Meanwhile, Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuaño, Western Visayas police chief, said the operation showed the importance of sustained police work supported by reliable information and coordination.

“We are continuing to strengthen our efforts against illegal drugs, particularly through operations guided by good intelligence,” he said.

The region’s top cop also said they would continue doing their part to protect communities while ensuring that personnel follow the law and observe proper procedures.

Suspects arrested for the sale and possession of illegal drugs may face charges under Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
