JJ Redick agrees to 4-year deal to become Lakers’ head coach

The Los Angeles Lakers’ search for the best head coach in the ongoing NBA off-season concluded after multiple reports confirmed that JJ Redick agreed to a four-year deal on June 21, 2024.

According to ESPN’s veteran NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, Redick will sign a multi-million contract and will take over the team as soon as possible.

“JJ Redick has agreed on a four-year contract to become the next coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. Rob Pelinka offered the job this morning, and Redick started working on a staff to surround himself with experience,” Wojnarowski posted on his social media account.

Last June 13, Wojnarowski reported that the Lakers strongly considered Redick as their next head coach.

This decision followed Dan Hurley, the current chief tactician of the UConn Huskies, turning down the Lakers’ $70-million coaching job offer.

Talks of Redick becoming the next head coach of the Lakers quickly went viral on social media after he collaborated with LeBron James on a basketball podcast named “Mind the Game Pod.”

Before their collaboration, Wojnarowski noted that Redick and Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka met during the NBA Draft Combine last month.

Despite lacking a strong coaching background, Redick’s knowledge and grasp of the game helped him build his reputation as one of the most reliable and sought-after basketball analysts in the world.

He gained popularity through his podcast, The Old Man & the Three, which has amassed 1.1 million subscribers.

Last off-season, Redick attempted to enter his first NBA coaching stint when he interviewed with the Toronto Raptors. Additionally, the Charlotte Hornets arranged a coaching interview with him.
