One of the best setters in the Philippine women’s volleyball scenery just announced her comeback in the Premier Volleyball League.
On June 17, 2025, Jia Morado-De Guzman, a former eight-time PVL Best Setter, confirmed in a press conference that she will be returning to the Creamline Cool Smashers.
The superstar orchestrator previously rendered her services to Denso Airybees, a professional club in Japan, but went home after committing to Alas Pilipinas, the country’s national volleyball team.
It was a historic run for De Guzman and Alas Pilipinas after delivering the first-ever silver medal and the country’s best finish in the recently concluded Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Women’s Nations Cup.
Despite falling to Vietnam in the grand finals, the Filipinas wrapped up the tournament with one of their best international runs, handing Kazakhstan and Chinese-Taipei massive losses to advance to the gold medal round.
However, De Guzman said that there will be no specific timetable for his return donning the Creamline jersey as she will have to finish her duties playing for the national team.
“Of course, I’m going back to Creamline but I went to a team that knows that I have responsibilities also for the flag,” De Guzman told reporters during the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) forum.
Alas Pilipinas will have a busy calendar this 2025 as they are also set to compete in the upcoming VTV Cup to be held in Vietnam.
After their brief trip to Vietnam, the Alas Women will have to redirect their focus to the Southeast Asian V. League this July.
Lastly, this December, the national team will seek a better finish when the Southeast Asian Games kicks off in Thailand.
“So right now, I’m very grateful because they are allowing me to focus entirely on Alas Pilipinas because we know that we have a responsibility to the country also so I’m very grateful to Creamline,” added De Guzman.
