Police said jealousy may have driven a construction worker to kill a security guard in a knife attack Sunday evening, Feb. 22, 2026, in La Paz district, Iloilo City.
Police identified the suspect only as alias “Herman,” 46, a resident of Barangay Sto. Niño in Arevalo district.
Police said the suspect remained at large as of press time.
Police identified the victim as alias “Demetrio,” 50, a resident of Barangay Divinagracia in La Paz.
Police said the suspect and the victim went drinking Sunday evening.
Police said both men worked at La Paz 2 Elementary School.
Police said the two later went to the home of the suspect’s live-in partner, “Leny,” 53, at Zone 6, Barangay Divinagracia, where they continued drinking.
Leny told police she heard the two men arguing at about 8:40 p.m.
Leny said Herman went inside her house and got a bladed weapon.
Leny said she heard Demetrio telling Herman they should talk the next day because Herman was already drunk.
Police said Demetrio got on his motorcycle to leave, but Herman ran after him and stabbed him in the chest.
Police said the suspect stabbed the victim again, hitting him on the left side of the abdomen.
Police said the victim was taken to West Visayas State University Medical Center, where he later died.
Leny told police she heard Herman and Demetrio talking about her before the stabbing.
She said she believed her live-in partner suspected she and Demetrio were having an affair.
Police said they are investigating and trying to locate the suspect.
