Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown had a successful arthroscopic debridement operation on his right knee announced on June 12, 2025.
According to the Celtics front office, Brown is expected to return when Boston kicks off their off-season training camp later this year.
After the Celtics failed to defend their NBA title when they were eliminated by the New York Knicks, it was confirmed that Brown was playing through a partially torn meniscus on his right knee.
Brown missed the last three regular season games but the Celtics didn’t disclose the specifics of the injury, listing him in the injury report with a right knee posterior impingement.
During the post-season, Brown averaged 22.1 points per game, but shot the ball inefficiently with 44.1%. It was a huge disparity when the Celtics won the NBA championship title last year, as the versatile scorer scored 23.9 points per game built from 51.6% shooting from the field.
When Jayson Tatum was officially ruled out of the playoffs due to a torn Achilles tendon, Boston turned their offensive focus to Brown, who was the squad’s secondary offensive option.
However, in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference semifinals with Boston needing another dub to extend the series to a Game 7, Brown shot 8/20 from the field and only delivered 20 markers.
Days after Boston’s playoff exit, it was revealed that he has been surviving everyday pain with a torn right knee meniscus.
Brown is already locked in when the next NBA season begins, as they kick off their bid of lost glory without Tatum who is expected to reinforce the squad after a year.
Tatum ruptured his right Achilles tendon in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference semis after falling without any contact in an attempt to dive for the loose ball.
As per Boston’s medical team, Tatum already underwent a successful surgery to repair his ruptured Achilles tendon on May 14, 2025.
