Jaylen Brown dominates in Philadelphia’s NBA preseason debut
By Leobert Julian A. de la Peña

Jaylen Brown’s first NBA preseason game with the Philadelphia 76ers had the entire fan base giggling with excitement.
On Oct. 6, 2026, the newly acquired superstar small forward dazzled in his first game wearing the blue and white threads, leading the 76ers to a lopsided 120-97 preseason victory over the New York Knicks at Xfinity Mobile Arena.
The former Boston Celtics scoring machine had a superb offensive outing, dropping 22 points on 8-of-13 shooting in just 16 minutes of action.
Brown had a plus-7 rating, grabbed two rebounds, dished out two assists and didn’t commit a single turnover against a great defensive team like the Knicks.
He immediately exploded for 13 points in the first quarter, bullying every New York defender thrown at him with aggressive downhill drives and physical, foul-drawing plays in the shaded lane.
Brown also engaged in a 3-point shootout with Jalen Brunson, knocking down two pull-up 3-pointers that put the 76ers back in the driver’s seat.
Without Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and LeBron James, Brown led Philadelphia’s offensive assault and received several baseline isolation plays.
Brown scored his final nine points upon checking back in during the second quarter as head coach Nick Nurse decided to play an all-bench unit in the second half.
“I’m just cleaning things up and just polishing things,” Brown said during the postgame press conference.
“Talking through different coverages with a different system. Philly has been great. It will be a long season; it’s a preseason game, so you got to definitely continue to get better.”
Despite all eyes being on Brown’s debut against the Knicks, the most highly anticipated preseason game for the 76ers will be on Oct. 11, when they face his old team, the Boston Celtics, on the road.
Before joining the 76ers, Brown played his first 10 NBA seasons in Boston and helped the franchise lift the Larry O’Brien Trophy when it defeated Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks in the 2024 NBA Finals.
