Japanese Prime Minister pushes Olympics amid COVID-19 complications

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe favors the 2020 Tokyo Olympics to push through despite the pandemic case of the COVID-19.

Abe said that there will be no change towards the calendar of activities in the 2020 Olympics, stating everything is still the same.

In line with this, Abe said that the Tokyo Olympics will still be in July, and Japan hasn’t changed any of their preparations and plans.

Abe emphasized these statements after US President Donald Trump pointed out the Olympics and said that Japan should cancel the event for the safety of everyone.

With the power to declare a state of emergency as the Prime Minister, Abe insisted that the pandemic rise of the disease is not enough reason to suspend or cancel the event.

“We will respond by closely coordinating with officials concerned, including the IOC (International Olympic Committee). There is no change in this. Abe told a news conference. We want to hold the Olympics as planned without any trouble by overcoming the spread of infections,” he said.
