Who would’ve thought that a team’s best scorer would immediately leave right after a championship campaign?
On Jan. 17, 2026, superstar hooper Janti Miller stunned the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) after departing the prestigious basketball program of the San Beda Red Lions.
Rumors of Miller leaving San Beda already made noise in December 2025, when he was spotted in the stands with the De La Salle University (DLSU) Green Archers crowd during the UAAP grand finals series.
Despite different circulating versions of his collegiate career decision, Miller reiterated several reasons why he wanted to jump ship—particularly with how the NCAA treated him when the playoffs started.
Miller cried foul when the NCAA board slapped him with a suspension in Game 2 against Letran after he received two flopping technical violations in Game 1.
As a result, the NCAA Mythical Team member could only watch and feel helpless as he was sidelined in Game 2. Fortunately, San Beda made a rousing come-from-behind effort to seal the series with a 2-0 sweep.
“I wouldn’t want to do it with anyone else, but I refuse to play in the NCAA league,” Miller wrote in his social media post.
“Once a Bedan, always a Bedan. I will forever support you guys and root for you guys, whether I’m playing for you or not.”
Miller quickly turned heads in his first eligible season with the Red Lions, tallying 20.35 points, 6.41 rebounds, and 1.06 steals during the entirety of NCAA Season 101.
Shifty, polished, and decisive with his offensive moves, Miller became one of the most feared collegiate players in the NCAA division, bolstered by a combination of strength and finesse.
According to multiple reports, Miller is now being eyed by top UAAP schools—specifically the Green Archers, Ateneo, and the UP Fighting Maroons.
