World no. 1 male tennis player Jannik Sinner decided to fire the two involved members in his training camp following his positive steroid tests taken last March 2024.
It was Sinner who released the public statement on August 25, 2024, stating that he already lost his confidence moving forward if he will be keeping them as an official part of his team.
Several days ago, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) released their official ruling regarding Sinner’s doping case.
In an investigation done by the organization, they found out that the banned substance barged into Sinner’s system through his fitness trainer’s over-the-counter spray.
According to Sinner, the spray that was bought in Italy contained Clostebol, which was used to treat his physiotherapist’s wound on his finger.
His physiotherapist then made direct contact with Sinner after treating him during the post and pre-game, without wearing any gloves.
The persons involved, Umberto Ferrara, his fitness trainer, and Giacomo Naldi, his physiotherapist, were already with Sinner three years ago when he was still making a name for himself in the ATP.
“Obviously it has been a very tough moment for me and my team. It still is, because it’s quite fresh,” said Sinner during his public statement.
Sinner is currently in a difficult spot, as he is set to redeem himself in the upcoming US Open Grand Slam tournament that will start today.
The Italian tennis ace will have his first test of the Grand Slam tournament on August 28, 2024, as he is set to battle Mackenzie McDonald in the first round in New York.
