Jail inmate arrested for another murder rap

An inmate of the Iloilo District Jail in Brgy. Nanga, Pototan, Iloilo was “arrested” inside his cell for a murder case last Nov 18, 2021.

Members of PNP-Anti-Kidnapping Group (AKG) Visayas Field Unit-Iloilo Team led by Police Executive Master Sgt. Franco C Aguilar with Master Sgt. Jay G Balisang and Patrolman Reymund Castillo served the warrant against Benjie Onofre of Mapili village in San Enrique, Iloilo.

Onofre, who was detained for another murder case, is facing a similar charge in Criminal Case No. 45041.

Judge Victor E. Gelvezon of the Iloilo Regional Trial Court Branch 36 issued the arrest warrant on Nov 15, 2021.

According to a report from PNP AKG-Iloilo team, they learned through intelligence gathering that Onofre was already detained at the district jail managed by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).

The information was confirmed in coordination with the BJMP that led to the serving of the latest arrest order.
