BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said local governments can offer incentives to convince residents to get inoculated against the coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19.
But Lacson said the vaccine itself is already an incentive.
“The vaccine is for your life. But if some LGUs will give incentives, we will not discourage them,” the governor said.
Earlier, Moises Padilla Mayor Ella Garcia-Yulo distributed 3 kilos of rice to each resident who availed of the COVID jabs.
Yulo said this is to address the low vaccination turnout.
At least 124 residents received the incentive.
Yulo said that of the 43,000 residents, at least 30,000 should be inoculated to reach “herd immunity.”
However, only 1,133 residents availed of the free vaccination or only 4% of the target population.
