BERLIN, Germany — As ITB Berlin 2026 opened March 3 at the International Congress Center (ICC) Berlin, formerly Messe Berlin, the Philippine booth again welcomed international buyers as the country sustained more than four decades of participation at the world’s largest travel trade fair.
The Philippines’ ITB Berlin engagement began in 1985 and has been presented by tourism officials as a platform for long-term partnerships and market development, particularly across Europe’s outbound travel sector.
Tourism officials said the post-pandemic period has translated that foundation into rising negotiated sales leads linked to ITB Berlin participation.
In 2023, sales leads generated during ITB Berlin reached PHP 271.5 million.
In 2024, that figure increased by 50 percent to PHP 489.1 million.
By 2025, the Philippine delegation recorded PHP 637.4 million in negotiated sales leads from 352 business meetings, a 30.31 percent increase from 2024.
The 2025 delegation also included 29 co-exhibitors representing a broad spectrum of the tourism sector.
The Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) Philippines said the trend reflects a more structured approach to international trade work by integrating government leadership, private enterprises, and destination stakeholders in a coordinated pavilion framework.
Tourism Promotions Board Philippines Chief Operating Officer Maria Margarita Montemayor Nograles said the country’s long-running role at ITB Berlin reflects strategy rather than one-off visibility.
“Forty years at ITB Berlin illustrate the importance of consistency in international market outreach,” COO Nograles affirmed.
“We view global trade platforms as mechanisms for partnership-building, performance assessment, and policy coherence,” she said.
“Our gains recorded demonstrate a more integrated tourism strategy that links national direction, private sector preparedness, and shifting international demand.”
TPB said the 2026 delegation is building on that upward trajectory with a larger mix of participants than the previous year.
This year’s exhibitors represent accommodation providers, destination management companies, local government units, and tourism organizations, which TPB described as an expansion and a sign of growing confidence in the platform.
On the opening day, Philippine sellers met international buyers to discuss leisure programs, emerging regional circuits, and itineraries shaped by evolving ecotourism expectations.
Organizers and sellers said buyer conversations increasingly reflect interest in responsible travel practices, community-based experiences, and environmental priorities gaining prominence across the global travel landscape.
TPB said its recent promotional efforts have intentionally emphasized inclusive tourism alongside traditional destination appeal to balance growth with sustainability in international market engagement.
“Our approach to ITB Berlin today advances a more balanced narrative,” COO Nograles added.
“We highlight the beauty of our destinations, and our commitment to sustainability, community participation, and long-term value creation,” she said.
“That alignment is central to our engagement with European partners.”
As ITB Berlin 2026 begins under what TPB described as challenging global circumstances, the Philippines’ presence is being framed as continuity, with the delegation maintaining scheduled engagements despite travel disruptions affecting attendance.
TPB said the delegation remains focused on deepening partnerships and sustaining market conversations that support the Philippines’ long-term tourism development while approaching the week’s engagements with professionalism and responsibility.
