ISUFST to host first international research forum

BAROTAC NUEVO, Iloilo — The Iloilo State University of Fisheries Science and Technology will welcome researchers and scholars from the Philippines and abroad for its first International Research Forum on Sustainable Development and Research Publication on Sept. 11–12, 2026.
The forum will be held at the Hasa-Hasa Theater of the Research and Extension Hub at the ISUFST Main Campus–Tiwi Site in Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo.
Organized through the College of Business, Management, and Sustainable Development, the event carries the theme “Innovating for a Sustainable Future: Advancing Research Excellence and Scholarly Publication.”
The event marks the university’s first international research forum of its kind.
Participation in the forum is free, allowing more researchers and students to present their work, hear new perspectives, build professional connections, and explore publication opportunities.
Scholars from South Korea, Thailand, and India will lead key discussions during the two-day forum.
Dr. Suyon Park of the IR Center at Sunchon National University in South Korea will discuss “Emerging Trends in Research and Innovation.”
Dr. Lalita Siriwattananon, dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Technology at Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi in Thailand, will tackle “Translating Research into Policy, Practice, and Community Impact.”
Dr. Tapas Pal, honorary research director of the Forum for Indigenous Agricultural Movement in India, will speak on “Research for Sustainable Development: Aligning Research with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).”
On the second day, Dr. Victor Cajala, president of VMC Analytiks Multidisciplinary Journal News Publishing Services, will lead a session on “Publishing Research in Peer-Reviewed Journals: From Manuscript Preparation to Publication.”
A panel discussion, synthesis, and parallel research presentations will follow.
Research presentations will cover topics related to the Sustainable Development Goals, food innovation, environmental sustainability, and business and entrepreneurship.
Each presenter will be allotted 15 minutes — 12 minutes for the presentation and three minutes for questions and answers.
The forum is also designed to help researchers bring their work to wider audiences through publication and dissemination.
Selected papers will have an opportunity for publication in an international refereed journal, while accepted abstracts will be included in the Digital Conference Abstract Book.
Dr. Pia P. Paz, dean of CBMSD and co-chair of the first IRFSDRP, said the gathering is intended to go beyond the presentation of academic papers.
“We want this forum to be more than a venue for presenting papers. We hope it becomes a space where researchers learn from one another, build meaningful connections, and see how their work can contribute to communities and to a more sustainable future,” Paz said.

With preparations nearing completion, ISUFST is set to bring local and international researchers together to exchange ideas, establish connections, and pursue opportunities for collaboration and publication.
Organizers said offering the forum free of charge is intended to make opportunities for research exchange, professional development, and scholarly networking accessible to more participants.
The Sept. 11–12 forum is expected to provide a platform for research to move beyond completion toward discussion, collaboration, publication, and community impact.
