The Iloilo State University of Fisheries Science and Technology (ISUFST) is celebrating its second University Week from January 8 to 10, 2025, at its Dingle Campus. The event carries the theme “ISUFST @ 2: Transformative, Innovative, and Sustainable,” reflecting the university’s journey and its vision of becoming a leading Southeast Asian research institution by 2030.
The festivities will open on Wednesday, January 8, with a motorcade uniting community members from ISUFST’s five campuses and sites. The main program will be held at the Dingle Campus open field, with notable guests including Congressman Ferjenel Biron, Anilao Mayor Nathalie Ann Debuque, and Dingle Mayor Rufino Palabrica III delivering inspirational messages.
“This University Week reflects not only our growth but our commitment to innovation, excellence, and sustainability,” ISUFST President Dr. Nordy Siason Jr. said, highlighting the university’s progress and forward-looking vision.
Dr. Dingras Balbona, Dingle Campus Administrator and event host, expressed pride in the campus’ role in the celebration. “This is more than a gathering; it’s a celebration of how far we’ve come and our unity in achieving our goals,” he said.
The opening day will feature Filipino games, cultural performances, exhibits, and a keynote speech by Prof. Eddie Nuque on leadership and resilience. These activities aim to foster camaraderie and pride within the ISUFST community.
On January 9, events will move to the San Enrique Campus, showcasing student talents through literary, musical, and arts competitions. Activities will include vocal solos, duets, street dance, painting, radio drama, and charcoal rendering, embodying ISUFST’s holistic educational approach.
The final day, January 10, will focus on faculty and staff. It will begin with a Thanksgiving Mass at the Dingle Campus, followed by a luncheon, team-building games, and a closing program to strengthen community bonds.
ISUFST has over 8,500 students and 420 faculty and staff members. The university has achieved significant milestones, including CHED Regional Quality Awards, ISO and AACCUP certifications, and recognition as a Center of Development in Fisheries.
“This University Week aims to remind us of our shared mission to drive meaningful change in education and nation-building. Together, we will continue to make a difference,” Dr. Siason said.
ISUFST, which started as a local fisheries school in 1957, remains committed to its principles of Integrity, Social Justice, Discipline, and Academic Excellence. “This week is a celebration of who we are and what we can accomplish together as one ISUFST family,” Dr. Balbona said.
