Is your power bank safe? DTI’s Standards Week shows how to check

MANILA — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is highlighting the role of standards in advancing safe, sustainable, and innovative technologies as it celebrates the 52nd National Standards Week (NSW) this October 2026.
The celebration includes a series of activities focused on clean energy and artificial intelligence (AI).
The week matters to consumers because standards determine whether the products they use, from power banks to solar panels to small electric vehicles, are tested and safe, and a public consultation on micromobility rules gives them a chance to weigh in.
NSW is observed annually under Proclamation No. 1327, s. 1974. It coincides with World Standards Day on Oct. 14.
This year’s theme, “Shared Vision for a Better World: Clean Energy for All,” emphasizes the role of technical standards in making technologies safer, more efficient, and accessible.
Through the Bureau of Philippine Standards (BPS), the celebration kicks off on Oct. 12 with a Zoom webinar, “PNS Highlight Series No. 5: Philippine National Standards for Artificial Intelligence: Advancing Responsible AI, Governance and Innovation.”
The session will discuss how Philippine National Standards (PNS) support the ethical adoption, risk management, and safe governance of AI.
The BPS is the DTI agency responsible for developing national standards.
From Oct. 13 to 15, the Certified Products Expo will take place at the Megatrade Hall, SM Megamall.
The expo is co-organized with the DTI Consumer Protection and Advocacy Bureau.
The fair will feature more than 50 exhibitors displaying goods that carry BPS safety and quality certifications.
This gives shoppers a firsthand look at tested products.
On Oct. 14, the BPS will hold a public consultation at Seda BGC in Taguig City on the draft Department Administrative Order covering micromobility.
The session invites stakeholder feedback on proposed technical regulations for small electric and personal vehicles.
Clean energy safety takes the spotlight on Oct. 15 during the free Solar Photovoltaic (PV) and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Solar Safety Workshop and Technical Forum at Makati Diamond Residences.
Industry representatives, government regulators, and technical experts will discuss safety guidelines and regulatory requirements for installing, operating, and maintaining solar energy systems.
Also on Oct. 15, the BPS will present the “4109 Awards.”
The awards honor partners across government, industry, and academia for their contributions to consumer protection, local business growth, and national competitiveness.
The weeklong event concludes on Oct. 16 with a hands-on technical workshop for BPS engineers.
The workshop will cover testing procedures for power banks and solar panels.
