A program of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) that aims to empower women was launched anew, this time in Passi City.
Dubbed “Babaye Bangon,” the project was formally launched in the only component city of Iloilo province on Nov 26 at the Passi City Arena.
Babaye Bangon has an objective to make the Ilonggo women, particularly VAWC (violence against women and children) survivors, more confident of what they can do for the community.
The program was materialized through the support of the Passi City local government and the Passi City Police Station.
Recipients were introduced to meat processing as their livelihood program.
Part of the launching was a blessing of the Babaye Bangon Center located at the Passi City Public Market.
Colonel Gilbert Gorero, Iloilo police chief, said that the project is expected to bolster IPPO’s focus on the protection and empowerment of women, especially those who have gone thru difficult circumstances: the abused, neglected, and exploited.
“The project will provide venue for women undergoing the stages of healing, regaining their self-worth, and making them more productive,” he said.
Bangon in this case, Gorero said, would mean resiliency, productivity, and development.
BANGON stands for:
B-elieve to yourself A-am High
N-ever give up
G-ive your best
O- verwhelm negativity in life N-ourish yourself
The Passi City Babaye Bangon is the sixth chapter of IPPO’s best practice on women empowerment and protection.
Other chapters are in Cabatuan with candle making project; Pavia, meat processing; Bingawan, rug making; Concepcion, soap making; and Ajuy, chip making.
